GUITAR CONCERT AND SEMINAR

Richard Gilewitz, popular acoustic fingerstyle player, will be conducting a seminar on acoustic guitar and sound for all ages and all levels of player. A short concert kicks off the event, which is then followed the lecture style seminar. It's a two-hour jam-packed event of performance, virtuoso chops and valuable insights. This entertaining and informative interactive clinic covers various topics including equipment demonstrations and sound reinforcement.

As an artist representative and exclusive traveling clinician for several major manufacturers, this leading player and educator conducts over 100 workshops yearly for music store dealers, college music departments, music schools, and music societies. The guitar clinic is designed to explore a variety of elements, including choice of the right guitar, strings, and sound system to match a player's requirements. These inspiring instructional guitar seminars encourage players of all levels to embrace their musical craft. As attendees learn ways to increase their skills, they are taught new techniques to enhance their level of playing and often discover how to achieve the "sound" of a professional acoustic guitarist. Discussion and demonstration of other topics including open tuning, slide, compositional approaches, flexibility exercises, and a variety of tips to inspire every player round out the 2-hour clinic during a question and answer period. Whether a hobbyist, weekend warrior or full time professional, you'll be entertained, inspired and educated.

Well known for his command of the 6 and 12-string guitar, Gilewitz offers an offbeat sense of humor and amazing tales from the road to captivate audiences, whether he is playing a solo performance or sharing the stage with other artists. This engaging performer continues to forge a new voice from the acoustic guitar as he demonstrates the expanse of his musical influences throughout his performance of "Fingerstyle Guitar through Time". His complex and energetic original works are stories from the guitar, delivering invitations to each listener to take a journey with him through the past and present realm of guitar music. As Gilewitz incorporates his own personality and orchestration into a sound tunnel of timeless musical history, he offers a musical platter filled with colorful imagery of samples from European, Contemporary, and Spanish Classical works to the Traditional Folk, Blues and American Primitive eras.

Despite Richard's time consuming concert and seminar schedule, he has produced four solo recordings, an instructional video and several songbooks for fingerstyle guitar, while contributing articles for Mel Bay Publications' Guitar Sessions and other trade magazines.

Over the years, Richard has shared the stage with such artists as Steve Morse, John Renbourn, The Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Indigo Girls, Richard Thompson, Jorma Kaukonen, Patty Larkin, Norman Blake, John Hammond, Taj Mahal, Adrian Legg, John Fahey, and Leo Kottke.

States the May/June 2002 issue of Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine, "To say Richard Gilewitz has a unique personality would be an understatement. His quick wit and twisted sense of humor has made him an entertainer as well as a fine guitarist. He interacts with his audience as he puts it, 'the whole room is in concert.' Whether it's a workshop or concert, Richard leaves his audience with a unique experience."
