Where's Gilewitz?
Many of Richard's fans constantly e-mail asking "Where's Gilewitz?", as they try to catch one of his concert performances, guitar clinics, or master classes. He does keep showing up all over the USA and in several other countries, as well as in a number of prominent music magazines. We are happy to report the latest mention in the Fall 2004 Frets edition of Guitar Player Magazine.
Editor in Chief, Michael Molenda, organized an on the spot interview with Richard following his "play of the day" appearance at Guitar Player's Awards Ceremony during Summer 2004 NAMM in Nashville. Richard was first brought to Michael's attention after discovering that the scheduled act for the evening was stranded in New York and simultaneously hearing Gary Boss and Roxanne Coppenger of Audio-Technica asking, "Where's Gilewitz?". With the help of several of Richard's sponsors, including Audio-Technica, Breedlove Guitars, D'Addario, L.R. Baggs, Sabine, and Shubb, Richard stepped up to the stage and ripped into a great last minute impromptu performance for the 100 plus crowd.
In the Frets Magazine "Spotlight" interview, Richard talks about his choice of equipment, influences, thoughts on composition, and technique in the context of his show performance, "Fingertsyle Guitar Through Time". Read all about it in the Fall 2004 issue of Frets, now at your local guitar shop and bookstores. As the opening line begins, "Who Is This Guy?", one might hear in the distance, "It's Gilewitz!

While on tour Richard might show up in a number of places, including your local grocery store, as he shops for his favorite coconut cookies. If you miss him in person, you can still catch a glimpse of him in the new D'Addario Strings "Friends" ad. Pick up the August and September issues of Acoustic Guitar Magazine and Guitar World Acoustic at Borders, Barnes & Nobles, Books-A-Million, or Kroger's and see how Richard is looking these days.
And, if you just can't wait for Richard to come to your town or missed that last teaching session, here's an opportunity to sharpen your playing skills now. In the News and On the Screen
The month of April finds Richard included in a couple of publications including an interview in the current edition of "20th Century Guitar" and in two sections in the Mel Bay Publications webzine, "Guitar Sessions"® .
The 20th Century Guitar magazine article explores the concept behind Richard's newest CD release, Thumbsing, and touches on additional upcoming projects. It's two pages of "Gilewitz" and starts off with an explanation of how the title "Thumbsing" came into being. Pick up an issue at your favorite guitar shop or bookstore for the complete story.
Richard joins veteran players Pat Kirtley and Steve Kaufman for an interesting and informative slant on guitar seminars. "Guitar Workshops -- Voices of Experience", the cover story for "Guitar Sessions"®, (guitarsessions.com) opens with a number of questions from Editor, Stephen Rekas. Since Richard is on the road most of the year performing concerts and conducting workshops (268 days on the road in 2003!), his insights are the real deal.
Those days on the road have provided many opportunities for Richard to explore other artistic endeavors, including his latest performance as "Agent Cupcake" in the upcoming film, Inbred Redneck Alien Abduction. "Tales from the Road" (guitarsessions.com/apr04/tales.html) , invites you to sneak previews of photos from the film, read about Richard's acting debut, and a portion of the actual script of Richard's part. The film, scheduled for release in 2004, also contains original musical scores by "Richard Gilewitz and The Cheaha Mountain Boys" and Wayne Brown.

Beginning the New Year
It's a brand new year and the upcoming months are full of new concert dates, guitar seminars and lessons. For all you "Gillaheads" who have been clamoring for more music from Richard, January 1 marks the release of Thumbsing. Available from this site as well as from CD Baby and Amazon.com, this 13-song compact disc is full of originals and some very contrasted covers of composers who have influenced Richard's own writings. The eye-catching artwork, created by graphic artist Pat Howse, carries the theme throughout the inside booklet and on to the back cover. For those of you who still think Richard looks like the cover of Synapse Collapse, don't be shocked as you flip your CD jewel case over to the backside and see the real Gilewitz! And while you're listening to this newest release, read about the background of each tune, complete with the tunings listed.
Richard's 2003 touring schedule took him to many locations and the Gillatour Photo Gallery will be expanded this year. There'll be looks at the first ever trip to Scotland, the yearly visit to Ireland, plus a gallery of photos from across the United States and Canada.

Live out of the area? No problem. Richard has a long distance program specifically designed for those who meet up with him once a year during his tours.
Richard's Music Shop is slated to open this year. This one-stop shop will feature a new on-line lesson subscription series, resources for information on books, cd's and other support materials, Gillagoods for gifts, and more sections for those interested in guitar music.
